What is Up with Our Packaging?

A pound is a pound ❤️

Our new look, shrinkflation, and why we’re the best around, pound for pound.

We sell our coffee by the pound. That’s One Pound, also known as 1 lb, 16 oz, or even .45 kilos.

We bring this up because while many people might refer to a bag of coffee as “a pound", most coffee providers are shorting you. See for yourself. When you next look at the grocery store shelf, take a closer look. Most of those bags are only 12…12 oz. Some even go so low as 10 oz! The horror.

That horror has a name: Shrinkflation.

You’ll find it everywhere. The same brands you’ve bought for years still cost the same. The packages might even be the same size. But the contents have shrunken. Just a few ounces here and there. Just a little less value for the same money out of your pocket.

For the record, we’re strictly anti-shrinkflation.

You deserve a pound of coffee. You’ve earned it. And you should be able to be value-conscious without resorting to sub-standard coffee drinking. We’re here for you. So now, as always, when we say a bag of coffee, we mean a pound. What’s more, we’re gonna give you a really good pound.

Which brings us to our next subject.

We’re thrilled to introduce our new 1 lb bags!

We will always love the craft paper packages we’ve used from our first days. However, as we’ve grown as a business, we have to make tough decisions about how we budget our time. This was not an easy decision. But, in this case, we have decided to devote continued effort toward making great coffee than maintaining rustic packaging. After all, it’s what’s on the inside that counts.

Our new bags are scoop-friendly, are sealed and gasketed to keep great flavors in, and they even look sharp on your coffee counter. But what about our hand-crafted legacy? Worry not, all of our packages are still hand-filled in our roastery in Greenwood Lake.

What’s in the bag? (Why we’re the best around)

If you know us, you know we love making great coffee. We’re proud of what we do. When you buy a bag of coffee or any coffee drink at the shop, it’s our name on the outside and our reputation on the inside. Why we stand above the rest:

  • Passion & Knowledge: We started with a love of coffee, but we transformed that passion into expertise. Our Roast Master is a Certified Q-Grader, like a Master Sommelier for coffee. Every new harvest means a new roast - evaluated and dialed-in to bring out the best possible flavors.

  • The best beans: the green coffees we import score in the 90th percentile with the Specialty Coffee Association. That means our coffee contains more high quality beans with less damage and near-zero hulls and chaff that make up filler for cheaper products.

  • No chemicals: We work with Organic and Fair-Trade farms as often as possible, removing chemicals and additives from our beans while avoiding exploitative business practices among coffee farms abroad.

  • Hand-crafted, every week: We roast all of our coffees in small batches every week in our custom-made roastery in Greenwood Lake, NY, USA.

  • It’s not a race: There are faster ways to produce massive amounts of coffee. We know, because we’ve visited those roasteries and talked to those makers. We are not shaming them, they simply have a different business model than ours. Ours means spending the extra time needed to roast every coffee to its maximum potential flavor, and bring that to your morning cup.

Lastly, a quick thank you.

This weekend marked NINE years since we opened our doors at the triangle. We would not have made it this far without you. We appreciate you, and we’ll take this last single-digit anniversary as an opportunity to renew our promise to delivering great coffee.

Thank you.

Dave & Yolanda
